TRIPLEHEADER

Tales, Memories, and Notes

from the Shadows of Cooperstown

Tripleheader Tales, Memories, and Notes from the Shadows of Cooperstown [Copyright © 2002 Erie Canal Productions] is a big (8.5 x 11, 80 pages, with photos.) book that contains an eclectic mixture of baseball related stories from three Central NY writers--Gene 'Two Finger' Carney, Scott Fiesthumel, & Bob Palazzo.

"interesting, informative, and sometimes-poignant"--Craig Muder, the Utica Observer-Dispatch

Fiesthumel (author of several books on baseball in the Utica, NY area) contributes stories from the newspaper column he writes for the Life & Times of Utica. These columns cover an assortment of eras; 19th century baseball in the Utica, NY area (including women's teams, indoor baseball and African-American teams), to early major league players, to a present day Induction Weekend at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, to the current Utica Blue Sox team.

Palazzo (a regular contributor to The Diamond Angle magazine) provides a personal glimpse into the lives of some of the great names in sports history as well as observations on baseball. A lifelong NY Yankee fan, he has met many of the stars of his youth and shares the circumstances of those meetings with the reader. Some of the people he's met are Yogi Berra, Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto, Goose Gossage, Don Zimmer, Clete Boyer.

Carney (author of the book Romancing the Horsehide) contributes work from his Notes From the Shadows of Cooperstown newsletter. Gene's "Four Seasons" (1993-96) is an exploration of the many joys experienced by fans of minor league teams in central New York, including the now-departed Utica Blue Sox.
